Pescadero Road

Finally got out for a ride today. I usually ride to work and back, but haven't had a chance to just take a nice ride in a while. Today I rode in the Santa Cruz mountains.

I left around 10:30 in the morning and took the fastest way to 84, which was to jump on 280. Once on 84 I went through the usual slow-moving traffic in Woodside. I was stuck behind a minivan past Woodside, who couldn't make up his mind on where to turn and whether to turn left or right, slowing down me and a bunch of cars and motorcycles behind me. Thankfully, he made a left on Portola Rd and I and everyone else made a right to go up 84. I stopped at the first turnout for some pictures.

I continued on, and quickly stopped for pictures again, this time higher up on the mountain, with a good view of the valley below.

The other side of this barrier on the left is at least a 100 foot drop:

I got back on my bike and kept going. Went up to the top of the mountain, past Alice's and down the other side. There was a Jeep Wrangler in front of me, and he was going pretty fast, especially for something with such a high center of gravity. He was fast enough that I was happy following him, didn't even want to pass. This continued for about a minute. Then he got stuck behind a slow-moving truck. I couldn't stand going that slow, and so I pulled over at the turnout to take some pics and let the truck get far ahead of me.

Retaining wall to keep mudslides from happening. Can you find the bike in this picture?

Here it is:

The rest of my route down was uneventful, and I turned left on Pescadero Rd, and then stopped at the end of the straight section, before making a right to stay on Pescadero.

Looking back towards 84:

Pescadero is always a nice ride, but it still had lots of leaves and needles on the surface, mainly along the center and side lines. I kept the speed down to be careful. There are not many places to pull over for pictures on Pescadero Rd, so I pulled into this YMCA entrance for some pics.

FJR sez, "Git outta ma way, or I'll blind you!":

Note: you do NOT want to look straight into those HID's. Trust me.

Further down Pescadero Rd, I found another place to stop, but alas, there are no places to stop for pictures of the real twisties. So here are some pics of the straight portions after the twisties.

Attempt at a self-portrait:

I rode down the rest of Pesadero Rd and made a right on Hwy 1. A short distance up, I turned off into one of the many vista points along the ocean.

It was windy along the ocean today:

A quick ride up Hwy 1 and into Half Moon Bay, where I made a right on Hwy 92. I took 92 up to Skyline - thankfully cars got out of the left lane going up the mountain, so I enjoyed those sweepers without anyone to hold me up. I stopped at the overlook on Skyline for more pics. Here's a view of the Upper Crystal Springs Reservoir from the top:

FJR at the overlook:

Instead of taking Skyline back to Alice's, like I usually do, I decided to take 92 down the mountain. This resulted in a lot more shots of the reservoir.

And a little further down the road.

Then I rode home, uploaded the pictures and went to the office to do more work. I'm still here :(
